This is going to be an awesome year of exploration! I am excited to join your student in this experience of learning and growth. Read more below to find out about our classroom.
- Behavior- Class Dojo “Good choices leads to freedom and independence.”
- Positive Reinforcements include- weekly rewards, independent choices, and monthly celebrations. Consequences include- personal resets, walking tickets, loss of activity, teacher buddy and finally a call home.
- Math- Focus on Five critical areas: (1) determine place value and round numbers to 1,000; (2) develop understanding of multiplication and division; (3) develop understanding of fractions, (4) develop understanding of area and perimeter and shapes; and (5) use measurement and data to better understand math.
- ELA Reading and Writing- Focus on reading fluently for deeper comprehension. Read different genres including informational text. Be able to write, edit and revise a personal and fictional narrative, expository or informational piece, and opinion pieces. We will also research to help make our writing better, and share what we know through oral presentations or visual displays. Throughout the year we will also be working on cursive and typing.
- Homework- There will not be nightly homework this year, however work that has not been completed in the classroom, will be sent home in their take home folder and due the next day. I will also assign short review practices on some Mondays and Wednesdays where students have 2 days to return them for an in class review. Friday Journals will be sent home on Friday and will need to be returned Monday with parent entry.
- Projects and Field Trips- PBL on California Natives, Animal report with a visual aid and an exploration of our Solar System. Field Trips to the Sutter Buttes, Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Refuge and Roseville Aquatic Center.
